BOX IN HER TRAILER: WITH NOTE

[On B18, they will find a fancy looking gift box in his trailer with a note left on top. The handwriting is done in an over the top cursive that he might recognize as the Ringmaster's, written on aged papyrus with the ink seemingly made of shining gold.]

You seem like the sort that like to be prepared! Maybe this will help you keep what you need at hand.

[Her signature is so massive and florid that it fills up the rest of the paper. When they open the box, they'll find a bag of holding. This bag can hold an impossible amount of items inside of it, including her swords and armor. Anything that can be squeezed into the top of the bag can be weightlessly stored inside. Reaching in, she'll be able to find what she needs by touch.]

[Placed on her bed in their shared cabin on the moon, Connie will find a teeny-tiny box with a few air holes punched in it resting delicately on her pillow. There's a note next to it, with a message written out with neat block letters:]

CONNIE,

EVERYONE AT THE CARNIVAL HAS BEEN EXCHANGING "GIFTS" WITH THEIR FRIENDS AND ACQUAINTANCES. TO BE PERFECTLY HONEST, WE WERE NOT SURE WHAT YOU WOULD LIKE THE BEST, SINCE WE STILL DO NOT KNOW YOU VERY WELL YET. I WOULD HAVE ASKED STEVEN FOR HIS ADVICE, BUT THE LAST TIME HE TRIED TO HELP ME WITH GIFT GIVING, IT WENT TERRIBLY. SO WE JUST WENT AHEAD AND BOUGHT SOMETHING THAT WE SAW AT THE MARKET THAT SEEMED "COOL".

THIS IS THE SENTIMENTAL AND HEARTFELT PORTION OF THE MESSAGE: LAPIS AND I ARE VERY GLAD THAT YOU ARE HERE. IT SEEMS TO MAKE STEVEN HAPPY. [This message is partially a lie. Lapis had absolutely no hand in writing the message or buying the gift, beyond giving Peridot her credits to spend. As for the tiny box, it contains a tame micro dragon for Connie's very own. The contract for it's care is rolled up like a scroll and tied closed with a simple string, placed next to the box.]

[It takes some searching, but on the evening of the 18th, Connie will find upon her outside window sill wrapped in a plastic bag to keep from getting wet in the snow. At the top is a card-magically painted, appearing to move just slightly as a result.]

[Aside from a t-shirt matching a certain someone's (hers is the blue one), Connie has received a few bookmarks made from what appears to be pressed flowers-likely from Gongenzaka's mane! Each one is found in the front cover of four new books. The first three are all a complete trilogy, a sci-fi fantasy following the adventures of a young girl and her quest for what's right in the world! There's a lot of bonus lore and maps in the back of each one. (Also, he skim-read it, so he Knows it's not a bad set of books) The fourth however is non-fiction, and primarily looks at swordplay. Nothing fancy, but there's some good points on sword maintenance in here! It seems Gongenzaka also included a small omamori-just for luck.]

DAY 17

[At some point Steven will give this a shot because he doesn't know what he's doing. His voice is a bit pitchy as he speaks, his embarrassment making his voice high and strained.]

Um. I don't know if you have your radio on, but... this is Steven...

If you hear this, um... I'm sorry, about what I said, and...

[ Connie opens the channel to listen, and she feels herself tense up when she hears Steven's voice.

She's been going over that conversation in her head nonstop since yesterday. She's been thinking thinking thinking. Did she say something wrong? What was she expecting him to say? What should he have said? What would have made it go better? Could it have gone worse? Did he mean what he said? Why did he say it? Had she been unfair, was she asking too much? Was she not asking enough?

She hears the apology and she can't even stop the tears from coming down, something inside her unwinds and the sudden relief is extraordinary. She's glad these are radios, because if she didn't have to push a button to speak, he would hear her doing some gross sobbing on the other side.

A few minutes later when she's calmed herself down somewhat, she presses the button to talk but... she doesn't know what to say. She can't do this over the radio. She depresses the button. ]

Mailbox - Winter Break

[Left in Connie's mailbox is a painted card. The card smells of pine needles, snow and a fireplace, and features Papyrus, waving enthusiastically ahead. Somehow there's boneprint snowflakes faintly falling against the pale background. Along the header and footer, the card reads:]

[Inside, a personal message continues:]

HI CONNIE!
HOPE YOU'RE ENJOYING THE CARNIVAL!
BY WHICH I MEAN THE MOON, BECAUSE I THINK WE FOUND YOU IN THE MANOR?
SO YOU HAVEN'T REALLY EXPERIENCED CARNIVAL LIFE YET.
LOOK FORWARD TO IT!
MEANWHILE, I HEAR YOU'RE THE ONE BEHIND THE BOOK SWAP.
THAT WAS A GREAT IDEA!

[He can't sense anything from her when they are this far apart, so her reaction is a painful mystery. He thinks for a second he might have heard static on the other side of the radio, but he isn't sure enough to answer. He stares at his radio for a while, waiting, and then puts it down on his lap.

Maybe she's still mad. Maybe she needs more time to think about it? He hesitates for a while over whether he should say anything else, until finally:]

Um... [His voice crackles.] Let me know, okay?

[He sets his radio off to the side, flushing. Lil makes a soft chitter at his side, and he directs his attention towards petting the Chikorita's leaf sadly instead.]

LATER DAY 19

[He'd wrapped it earlier, but after their argument... well, he hasn't really felt like he could deliver it without it being creepy or pushy or generally unwanted. However, receiving her gift earlier in the day has bolstered his confidence enough to send him into a flurry of activity, finishing up the packaging and writing a note to go along with it.

The box is fairly heavy - as it turns out, it has an entire Tron Armour Set from the market, with seafoam green lines, like her soul colour. There is also a white throw pillow made with slightly iridescent faux fur, with a contrastingly pink patch of cloth stitched to the front in the shape of a heart. The white fabric smells faintly of lavender and other hard to place relaxing aromas, and has slight magical soothing effect from being close to it.]

I'm sorry if this is a lot! I got it earlier during the vacation, because I thought that if you were going on be on this adventure with us, that it'd help you stay safe. It can get really bad sometimes, just like it has been back home, but I didn't ever want to make it sound like I didn't want you to be with me.

I've just been kind of scared, a lot, recently, and I'm scared that something bad will happen to you, and that it'll be my fault. But I guess it isn't really fair if I make you have to deal with something happening to me, either...

I made the pillow with this furry stuff that smells really good and makes you feel relaxed when you're close to it. I hope you like it!

Mailbox!

[Some several days after Connie leaves her book gift, a handwritten note and a lone (somewhat pathetic) sugar cookie appear in her mailbox. It's not an expert cookie by any stretch of the imagination but the open book silhouette on it in icing isn't half bad.]

Thank you very much for the book. I am enjoying reading it when I can, I hope you don't mind if I don't swap it any time soon.

[ Tucked inside Connie's mailbox are some dollar store sand toys. There's a shovel and a bucket, but also a rake and a trowel. They're all brightly colored, made of plastic, and not the best quality.

This is what Cole's decided to spend part of his Wismuth allowance on. However, he hasn't left a note or anything like that. ]
